Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) 

About the FLEX program  

The Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) is a cultural exchange program of the Bureau of Education and Culture of the U.S. Department of State, coordinated in the Republic of Uzbekistan by the American Councils for International Education: ACTR / ACCELS (American Councils) with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The program provides students from all over Uzbekistan with the opportunity to study at a U.S. high school and live with an American host family for one academic year. Since the creation of the program in 1993, more than 29,000 students have participated in the FLEX program, and more than 1,000 FLEX graduates from Uzbekistan have traveled to the United States for exchange.

Requirements for candidates

FLEX is open and accessible for all participants who meet the criteria and are held competitively. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply. An applicant can submit only one application per year during the competition period.

Everyone who wants to take part in the competition must:

  1. Meet the age criteria and the class of study.

  2. At the time of applying, they must be enrolled in a secondary school or lyceum/ college in Uzbekistan and attend it when applying.  

  3. Have excellent and good grades.

  4. To study English earlier and demonstrate proficiency in English at the time of participation in the competition.  

  5. Meet the requirements for issuing an American entry visa.  

  6. Be a citizen of Uzbekistan.  

Monitor FLEX Uzbekistan's social media for program announcements, including current eligibility requirements and dates.

Candidates can participate in the selection process of a finalist from any region of Uzbekistan, having access to the Internet, using either a mobile device or a computer. The FLEX program selection will continue to include three rigorous testing rounds.

Round 1: Open to eligible candidates in late summer/early fall. t. This round includes a preliminary online questionnaire and three essay questions, which must be submitted within ten days from the start of the application.

Round 2: Students/applicants will be invited to take part in an online English language test.

Round 3: This final round includes an interview, essay questions, an application, and an in-depth English language test. Semifinalists who pass to this stage will be invited to participate by the office of the American Councils in Uzbekistan.
