American Corners in Uzbekistan

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, in cooperation with American Councils for International Education, launched the American Corners initiative throughout the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, in partnership with the Ministry of preschool and school education of the Republic of Uzbekistan officially opened the first American Corner at the Specialized Boarding school named after Abdulla Oripov in Qarshi, Qashqadaryo region on March 26, 2021. American Corner Qarshi (ACQ) facilitates English language learning through programs led by native English speakers. It also provides access to print and digital English language media and resources.

The U.S. Embassy’s second American Corner opened in April 2022 on the first floor of the Istiqbol Zamon Bolalari private school in the city of Namangan. The 126-square-meter American Corner Namangan (ACN) includes an open-access computer lab, library, and a shared conference-classroom space.

American Corners in Qarshi and Namangan offer conversation clubs, discussion groups, virtual programs, film screenings, and other English language learning activities. They are open to the public free of charge and include a computer lab equipped with high-speed internet access, a classroom with a library, a conference hall, and an educational advising room.

The American Corners also serve as a hub for EducationUSA and provide a free consultation service to prospective undergraduate and graduate students who wish to study in the United States. In addition to informational consultation, EducationUSA offers cohort programming and information about standardized tests such as TOEFL, GRE, SAT. The American Corners are open to all citizens, regardless of age, ethnicity, race, gender, religion, socio-economic status, physical disability, or any other factor. Therefore, programming is also envisioned to be diverse, and represent the diversity of the United States as well.
